Brown's Leading Undergraduate Investment Fund
The Brown Socially Responsible Investment Fund is a student-run organization where members conduct original research and manage a real portfolio of over $350,000 with ESG considerations in mind. We exist to develop great investors, open doors to the careers they're pursuing, and build a long-lasting community.

About
Who We Are
SRIF is one of the largest student run ESG focused funds in America. We manage the portfolio to make attractive and socially responsible returns on behalf of the Brown endowment.
We also serve the student body through education, community and support.
No analyst is expected to arrive with a strong finance background, and teaching them the skills is our job.
The best way to learn investing is to carry responsibility for a real portfolio.
We work together on everything, holding each other to a high standard while staying generous about it.
Every member and every board member gives their time to help others get to the career they want.
What We Do
Investment Education
01Every member learns how to invest in the New Analyst Program. Analysts meet with the board and their cohort each week and cover their own stocks.
Strong work gets published and can enter the portfolio. Members then become associates who run the club's pitches, and the path into leadership opens up from there.
Recruiting Support
02Members are mentored by students who have already been through recruiting. We run consistent skill sessions and interview prep throughout the year, so nobody is working it out alone.
Alumni events and the finance trip put members in front of the people who hire. The club also opens doors to opportunities that are not otherwise available to students.
Community
03Analysts move through the program as a cohort and come out of it friends. The club stays a community of curious and supportive people who want each other to do well.
Socials and events run all year, such as last year's trip to Topgolf. Members stay connected after graduation and many go on to work with each other.
How We Invest
We are fundamental investors. We look for great businesses with real competitive advantages where we also have a variant view and a clear thesis.
Every position also has to clear an environmental, social and governance screen. We believe that a business which solves a socially beneficial problem and uses its power responsibly is the better long term investment.
Six sector teams and their new analysts cover the existing portfolio and any potential additions. This ensures that our money is always in our best ideas and that each thesis is playing out as planned.
We identify the key debates around a stock and find where we disagree with the market. Primary and secondary research back the view up and we quantify the difference.
A sector team that wants to buy or sell presents in full to every member and then takes questions from the floor.
A new name has to clear a higher bar than the names already in the book. If the room is not more confident in it than in the position it would displace, it does not get in.
Portfolio managers monitor sector, factor and theme exposure so the book never carries more risk than we intend.

The Finance Trip
Every fall we run a multiday trip to New York and take a cohort through ten or more firms. Goldman Sachs, Centerview Partners, Evercore, Lazard and Morgan Stanley have all hosted us.
Members meet analysts and recruiters at every stop and get a real look at how each firm works. The trip is fully funded by the UFB and open to any student at Brown, not only our own members. Applications go out later in the semester.
